The year 2012 has been described as an exciting year to come by the Chairman of B.A.D.D. , Nicholas Harrison. This description came at the inaugural awards ceremony held last evening at the LIME Sports Club in Wildey. Promising that he was hard at work to ensure that 2012 would better than 2011, Mr. Harrison asked the well represented membership to have patience, citing the old adage of Rome not being built in a day. Harrison’s comment came against the background of repeated calls for a quarter mile event, a matter which his committee is working on getting the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities.
Also present at the ceremony were representatives of the club’s main sponsors, Chefette Restaurants Ltd. and Barbados Today. In their respective speeches, both Mr. Ryan Haloute of Chefette Restaurants and Eric Clarke of Barbados Today both complimented the club on its growth and achievements during 2011, and indicated that they were looking forward to working with the club in 2012. Mr. Haloute stated that in it’s 40 year history, Chefette had never been involved with sponsorship of a club as new as B.A.D.D, but noted that when Chairman Nicholas Harrison used his trademark, “trust me”, Haloute felt assured that he was placing his sponsorship funds in good hands and so far has had no regrets. Mr. Clarke stated that Barbadostoday.bb was fully supportive of the club and had some “special” things planned for B.A.D.D. in 2012.
During the ceremony, winners of each class for each event in 2011 were awarded along with the John “Tiny” Harrison Memorial Challenge Trophy being presented to Champion Driver of the Year, Dwight Alleyne. Being Champion Driver also means that Dwight will campaign as car #1 (previously #69) in 2012. He amassed 531 points, almost 100 points clear of second placed Benjamin Eastmond. Third place went to Anthony-Ramon Archer.
